Uchinuki

Countless jet wells in the city of water

Saijo City is situated in a large alluvial fan of Kamo River which originates in the highest mountain in Shikoku region. Massive volume of spring waters totaling 90 thousand tons daily gush out from countless spots in the city.
Called "Uchinuki" by local people, these water spouting points can be found in various locations ranging from railroad station to residential gardens. Typically the water is directly drunk by local residents without any disinfection measures.
A large park space in the city is named "Aquapolis" and each of 5 zones in the area offers natural springs of various types. It should take at least a full day to fully enjoy the features of fine springs in the city, and time spent will be worth it.
